Solid Wooden Shutters Offer Great Advantages

Wooden window shutters are used to cover the window. Wooden shutters usually made of horizontal rails at the top and at the bottom with vertical stiles in between. Often you can see a horizontal rail at the centre as well, especially if the height of the shutter is much. A number of slats are placed within this frame and they are called louvers. These can be tightly fixed or operable and may be vertical or horizontal.

Shutters are used for many different reasons, they provide protection inside from the harsh sunlight and heat of the outside. They are great at providing privacy as well, especially for those rooms where confidential talks take place at work or where we withdraw for personal reasons at home. In the winter season, they are great at keeping the inside hot. They also provide ventilation in the natural way so that you don’t need to depend on the air conditioning to keep the interior of the house fresh.

Shutters are generally fitted on the outside of the house so that they can stop the light, sun, dust and other natural elements out while protecting privacy and protection as well. They are generally hinged at one side so that they can be swung open from the inside of the house with a push when we need to open those.

Some external shutters don’t close properly but it is not a defect in the design, they are chosen that way. These shutters are mostly for decorative purposes. They often are chosen for enhancing the decoration of the house.

Traditionally, functional shutters are made from solid woods so that they can remain strong against harsh elements of weather like rain and wind. However, we have witnessed mass production of these shutters from less suitable woods like Pine because of the easy availability and cost. Solid wooden shutters are treated so that they can last long. Some costly woods like mahogany, teak and cedar are water resistant due to the inherent grain structure. Thus, these woods are great at fighting the moisture away, compared to other softwoods. Of course, this is beneficial and helps the wood in fighting decay and rot.

There are different styles of shutters available which suit most of the purposes. These shutters can be fitted in the interior or the outside of the house. Some of the popular styles of shutters include traditional shutters, continental shutters, colonial shutters and plantation shutters.
